Local Mission Projects

Monaghan  seeks to be the hands of Christ in the local community, supporting many local charitable organizations through giving of time and energy.  Current beneficiaries of Monaghan’s mission efforts include:

New Hope Ministries – Monaghan supports New Hope ministries in many ways, including preparing and donating fruit basket at Christmas, donating items for the Christmas Blessing Express initiative, taking a special offering for the Share the Warmth program, providing items for Thanksgiving meals for clients, donating produce from the Hager Memorial Garden and collecting and donating items for ongoing needs of clients.

Carlisle Truck Stop Ministry, Inc. – Each year the members of Monaghan, along with several other local churches, donate Christmas Cookies for truckers through the Truck Stop Ministry.

Fruitbelt Farmworkers Christian Ministry (FFCM) – During the growing season, a group of congregants visit and take home cooked food to a small group of farm workers from Mexico who stay in the area picking produce for a local farm.

Presbyterian Senior Living (PSL) – Several times per year, Monaghan members visit residents of Carroll Village quarterly for food and fellowship.  Activities ranging from yard games to bingo to holiday parties make for meaningful and mutually enjoyable visits. PSL also receives produce grown the Hager Community Garden and PSL residents can adopt a bed within the garden.

Hager Memorial Community Garden  – The garden is named for Eunice Hagar, a beloved  long term member of the Monaghan family who envisioned this project and aided in its development.  Unfortunately Eunice passed away shortly after the garden dedication, but the garden lives on in her memory.  The Hager Community garden provides fresh produce to members of the congregation, residents of Presbyterian Senior Living and clients of New Hope Ministries.

Cumberland Vista of Christian Residential Opportunities and Social services (CROSS) – Residents join Monaghan monthly for worship and Sunday School.  Members of the congregation also visit periodically to bring fellowship and food to residents of Cumberland Vista.

Challenger Baseball – Congregants of all skill levels join together to play baseball with Challenger Baseball teams allowing players with special needs to enjoy the fun and camaraderie of playing baseball together.

Community Aid – Monaghan houses a Community Aid bin in the parking lot to allow community members a local location to donate goods.
